About
I'm Rusty Conover, a data infrastructure engineer and the founder of Query.Farm, an independent software company specializing in DuckDB extension development, consulting, and developer tools.
I build the extensions that unlock DuckDB's full potential — transforming it from a great analytical database into a complete data platform. With 20+ community extensions and over 2 million downloads, I work across C++, Rust, and Python to bring capabilities like Apache Arrow Flight, Kafka streaming, ClickHouse dialect support, and LLM prompting directly into DuckDB.
Background
Before Query.Farm, I held engineering leadership roles at some of the world's most demanding data environments:
- Schonfeld Strategic Advisors — Cloud data platform engineering
- Two Sigma Investments — Quantitative finance infrastructure
- JP Morgan Chase — Financial data systems
I also founded GearBuyer, scaling it from a startup to $21M in sales, and built Lucky Dinosaur, a live video streaming platform serving millions of users.
Technical Interests
I work across the stack but gravitate toward data infrastructure problems. My primary tools are:
- Languages: C++, Rust, Python, TypeScript
- Data: DuckDB, Apache Arrow, Parquet, Arrow Flight
- Infrastructure: Cloudflare Workers, AWS, distributed systems
- Interests: Embedded analytics, open table formats (Iceberg, Delta Lake), real-time streaming
This Site
rusty.today is where I write about data engineering, infrastructure, and the tools I build. The site itself is built with Astro, deployed on Cloudflare, and uses a scheduled Worker to aggregate my GitHub activity and generate daily AI-powered summaries via Claude.
